The automotive sector is one of the most important application markets for sensors. According to statistics from CCID Consulting, the automotive sector accounts for 32.3% of the global sensor market, followed by consumer electronics accounting for 17.7%.

However, with high requirements for vehicle specification, it is difficult for domestic sensors to replace global giants. According to the Blue Book of Sensor Development in China, the proportion of domestic automotive sensors in China is only about 2%, and the vast majority of automotive sensors are monopolized by global giants.

Recently, the National Technical Committee for Automotive Standardization issued a document stating that China will participate in the construction of three ISO international standards for automotive radar. Among them, the ISO international standard of LiDAR will be the first leading automotive radar sensor standard in China.

LiDAR is the most popular environmental sensing sensor in the field of autonomous driving in the next 10 years. It is predicted that the output value will reach 106.6 billion RMB in 2025. A group of excellent manufacturers have emerged in China, reshaping this 100 billion track and formulating Chinese standards.

The three standards include ISO/PWI 13228 Road vehicles–Test method for automotive LiDAR, ISO/PWI 13389 Road vehicles–Test method for detection performance of millimeter-wave radar and ISO/PWI 13377 Road vehicles–Guidelines for cooperative interference mitigation of automotive millimeter-wave radar.

The proposals for the three standards were all proposed by China. Previously, more than 30 experts from China, Germany, France, Finland, Japan, Sweden, and Belgium participated in the online meeting and reached a preliminary consensus on improving the standard framework based on the Chinese proposal.

Among them, the LiDAR standard ISO/PWI 13228, experts from Chinese LiDAR company serve as the team leader of the ISO International Standard Pre Research Working Group for Vehicle LiDAR (ISO/TC22/SC32/AHG1), while experts from another global LiDAR giant, Valeo in France, serve as the deputy team leader. Also, multiple leading international and domestic enterprises participate in the process, jointly promoting the development of LiDAR international standards.
